AURORA R.A. 2 - GEOMETRIC ENAMELLED DECORATION

In the 1920's Aurora's range of models included a line of safety fillers which were called R.A. ( Rientrante Aurora= Aurora Safety). These pens were manufactured in black and mottled ebonite. Sizes went from #00 up to #5.

Aurora R.A. models could be enriched with semi-precious and precious metal overlays  with various styles of decoration. We know of very simple and plain overlays with geometric guilloché or  barleycorn decoration as well as very elaborate, hand-finished repoussé overlays which are rare and precious works of art.

Aurora very often used enamel for its overlays; many promotional overlays with red or bue enamel are known (Ferrarelle, Isotta Fraschini, Touring Club, etc.). Enamel decoration was also used in the late 1920's/early 1930s to comply with the new, fashionable Art Deco style. Many Aurora overlays exist, where the enamel is used to create exquisite geometric patterns, which are not so common in other penmakers' scenario.

This R.A. 2 is an outstanding example of how simple lines of blue enamel can be used to completely transform a plain overlay into a fascinating example of elegance and originality.

The pen is in excellent condition with no damage to the blue enamel, nor dings.
